The South Korean manufacturer's new flagship smart phone, Samsung Galaxy S4, has beaten Apple's iPhone 5 as the best-seller on the smartphone market in the United States in May.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 was announced in New York City on March 14, 2013 and it was showed up as the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S III. On April 26, Galaxy S4 was launched in the USA market and since that, it has become the hottest selling smartphone in three of the top four major carriers, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint.
Apple iPhone 5 remains the best-selling smartphone at AT&T, but Samsung Galaxy S4 seems to be giving tough competition to iPhone 5 on its home land and Galaxy S4 oversells iPhone 5 in USA. Besides the Galaxy S4, the galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, have helped Samsung Electronics to overtake Apple in sales. Samsung became the top 1 of smart phones in the USA in May 2013, and Apple turned to be the second one, followed by HTC and Nokia.
According to Samsung, upon the release of Galaxy S4, it has become the fastest selling smart phone in Samsung's history, with 10 million devices sold till to May 22. It is reported that Google is releasing a version of the U.S. Galaxy S4 which runs Android 4.2.2 with the updates provided by Google. It is also said that this device is going to be sold on June 26, 2013 and only the U.S. customers can reach it.
Samsung also has declared that they are going to launch a miniaturized variant of the Galaxy S4 and will release an "Active" variant with a water resistant case, shock resistance, and an 8 megapixel camera.
Michael Walkley, the Canaccord Genuity analyst, said, "We believe Samsung on the Strength of strong Galaxy S4, S III, and Note II sales surpassed Apple to gain top share of the USA smartphone market for the first time since the iPhone 5 launch." On the other hand, a report from Internet analytics company comScore said that Apple still held the top spot in the smartphone market overall.
It is hard to make a final judgment that Samsung is the total winner over Apple's iPhone 5, since the smartphone market still gets a long and promising way to go. Still, from the statistical data, now Samsung Galaxy S4 beats iPhone 5 in sales.comments powered by Disqus
