Initial reports indicated that the iPhone 6 would be with us this Spring, following an earlier release date of the iPhone 5S. However, now it is reported that Apple's iPhone 6 release date would be delayed until the summer of 2014.
Jefferies analyst Peter Misek, who recently visited Apple's Asian suppliers, made a common, "After our Asia trip we now think the low-cost iPhone launch could be pushed to CQ4 and have increased confidence that the iPhone 6 will not launch until CY14". According to Misek's analysis, iPhone 5S would hit stores by July and the possible low-cost iPhone launch could be pushed to the fourth quarter of 2013. It is most likely for the iPhone 6 to be come out in June of 2014.
The iPhone 5S delay is an element which affects production of iPhone 6, as well as other Apple products. It is said that iPad Mini refresh would also be pushed back and there is no evidence of a possible iWatch in production. Misek spoke candidly about the expected delays, stating "iPhone 5S is having pre-production issues, with mass production at least a month or more away. This, combined with the publicly discussed delay of iOS7, puts July availability at risk (we had estimated July to early Sep). Low-cost iPhone launch may be pushed to CQ4."
As Samsung, Google, and Microsoft force ahead with smart phones, smart watches, and other smart devices, it is likely for Apple to delay its productions.
No one can be sure that Apple would take this kind of delay, though, and it seems that Apple now is doing everything it can to make sure that production goes ahead. Recent reports have shown that Foxconn has been taking on 10,000 production workers per week since the last week of March in order to meet orders, which indicates that there is still large demands in the market.
Many rumors also said that Apple is working on plastic cases for its next iPhone, mixing plastic and metal in such a way that the internal metal parts are able to be seen from outside through special design.
It's unclear whether such cases would be for the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, or if Apple is simply considering making cheaper iPhone 4s to sell when the iPhone 3GS reaches the end of its life. Speaking in March 2013, a KGI analyst said it believed Apple would turn to manufacturer Pegatron to make up to 75 per cent of low cost iPhone products.
