Note: Don't install Photo Recovery for Mac on the volume where your lost files originally stored.

Step 1: Select Data Recovery Mode

This software provides 2 recovery modes: "Lost Recovery" and "Raw Recovery". They just differ from scan mode, but the steps to recover data are the same.

"Lost Recovery" mode allows you to recover lost, deleted or formatted data from internal hard disks as well as other external attached hard drives and storage devices. Also, it recover files deleted by commanding "Command + Delete" or emptying the Trash. This recovery mode is recommended since it can save much more scanning time. Moreover, it recovers lost data with original file name and folder structures.

"Raw Recovery" mode uses a file signature search algorithm to scan partitions for files. It can scan more files, however, it takes much more time than Lost Recovery. It doesn't show the original names and folder structures of the scanned file.

Step 2: Choose a Volume where You Lost Files originally Located

This program will list all the volumes on your Mac and detect portable devices, select the one where your lost files located. Click "Scan" to proceed. In the process of scan, you are allowed to click "Pause" and "Stop" button. Once you click "Stop", you can directly go to the next step.

Note: All file types are selected by default. And you can also select the specific file type that you want to recover.

Step 3: Select the Files You Need to Recover

After scanning, all the recoverable files in the selected volume are displayed in a tree-like file directory. Before recovery, you can preview photos, audios to check whether they are the ones you need. Tick the one you want to recover and hit "Recover".

  • 1. For Lost Recovery mode, the scanned files are categorized by file name. While the scanned files for Raw Recovery are categorized by numbers.
  • 2. If you remember the file name, you can enter it directly in the right-corner blank to save time.

Step 4: Save the Recovered Files

Enter or specify a location on your Mac to save the recovered photos, videos, or other files. We highly suggest that you select a directory that is located in a different partition from the source partition.
