The tutorial below tells you how to recover iPhone X/8/7/SE/6s/6/5s/5c/5/4S lost data step by step. There are 3 modes to get back deleted files. See as below:

Mode 1. Recover Data from iPhone Directly without Backup

This recovery mode allows you to scan iPhone directly to get back lost photos, contacts, WhatsApp, voice memos, SMS, etc. without iTunes backup file, when you lost data after mistakenly deletion, iPhone crash, iOS upgrade and so on.

Note: Don't use your iPhone after you lost data from it. Any operation on your device can generate new data, which can overwrite your lost data and make it unrecoverable.

Step 1. Connect iPhone to Computer

Connect your iPhone to computer with a USB cable. Make sure your iPhone is switched on. Run the program. "Recover Data from iOS Device" is the default mode.

1. If your iPhone is working fine but cannot be detected, please unlock it if it has a passcode. If you get a dialog asking “Trust This Computer?” on iPhone, please tap "Trust" to get it detected by this program.

2. When your iPhone is stuck in recovery mode, the software will help you to exit recovery mode with one simple click before data recovery.

3. When you failed to exit recovery mode, or your iPhone is stuck at apple logo, reboot loop, crash, or other system issues, the new added functionality of “Repair Operating System” allows you to repair iOS system firstly before data recovery.

Step 2. Select iPhone Files to Scan

When your iPhone is detected by this software, you can specify file types to scan for fast recovery. Click "Start Scan" to scan your iPhone SE/6s/6/5s/5c/5/4S directly. It will take you several seconds to minutes to scan. The specific time depends on the file size stored on your iPhone.

Tip: During scanning, you are allowed to suspend scanning by clicking "Pause", or end scanning by clicking "Stop".

Step 3. Preview and Select Lost Files

You will see all the files displayed in categories including the lost ones and existing one (Lost/deleted files are marked in red). Click each category and you will see the detailed files in the preview window. After preview, mark the data you want and click "Recover" to retrieve deleted files.

Note1: The App photos on Instagram, Flickr, iPhoto, etc. are categorized in "Photos".
Note2: Tick the option "Only display the deleted items" on the bottom of the window to show the lost files.

Mode 2. Recover iPhone Data by Extracting iTunes Backup File

UltData helps you recover not only the existing data in the backup, but also those data deleted from your iPhone before you backup your device, as long as they are not overwritten.

It also enables you to find and recover deleted iTunes backup files from your computer, so that you can get back lost data from the found iTunes backup. You can also import backup files to restore data.

Note: Don't sync your device with iTunes as soon as you realize that you've lost data, otherwise, the iTunes backup file of this device will be updated after the sync.

Step 1: Select iTunes Backup File to Scan

Click on the iTunes symbol on the program's interface, and then you have selected "Recover Data from iTunes Backup File". It will automatically find and list all iTunes backup files. Select your iPhone backup files and click "Start Scan" to start iTunes backup extracting.

  • You can also import any backup file from computer's drive or from external hard drive to restore data, if there is no the backup file in the list you want to restore data from.
  • Click on the first link "Import Backup File" on the bottom of the software. A window will pop up to allow you to select the location of the backup file to import to the software. Then you can start to select the backup file to restore data.

  • If you have deleted or lost iTunes backup, you can find and recover the lost iTunes backup files from computer, and then get back lost data from them.
  • Click on the second link "Go get back deleted iTunes backup" on the bottom of the software. A window will pop up, which allows you to select the location of the lost backup files to scan. After scanning, you can select the backup file found to recover to the software.Then you can select this backup to restore data.

    Step 2: Preview and Recover Lost Data

    After a while, you can see all the data backed up by iTunes are included in categories. Select your target file type, and tick the files under this type. Then click "Recover". Before recovery, you are allowed to preview the files to check if they are indeed your need.

    Note1: The App photos on Instagram, Flickr, iPhoto, etc. are categorized in "Photos".
    Note2: Check the box before "Only display the deleted items", you can find files lost before you back up your device.

    Step 3: Save Recovered Files

    Navigate to a folder on your computer to save the recovered iPhone files. Text file will be saved as .xls, .txt and .xlm (contacts can be saved as .vcf/vCard as well); media files in their original formats.

    Mode 3: Restore iPhone Data from iCloud Backup

    If you have backed up your iPhone data with iCloud, you can restore iPhone data from iCloud backup as well.

    Step 1. Select recovery mode and log into iCloud

    Click on the iCloud symbol to switch to "Recover Data from iCloud Backup File" from the top menu. When the following interface appears, enter your iCloud account and password (Apple ID) and click "Sign in" to log in. Alternatively, you can click on "Software Access" to allow this sofware to detect the iCloud account and automatically sign in to iCloud -- you don't need to type the account and password again.

    Step 2. Scan iCloud backup

    After you log into your iCloud account, the program will list all the backup of devices which have been backed up with iCloud. According to backup name, backup date, backup size and iOS version, select you backup file and click "Next" to download this backup file.

    Select the file types you want to restore and click "Next", and then start the downloading. The downloading time varies based on the size of the backup file. Click "OK" when it completes.

    Step 3. Preview and recover files from iCloud backup

    Then scanning process starts, and ends after a while. Select the files you need to recover and click "Recover" to save them on your computer. Again, text file will be saved in .xls, .txt and .xlm (contacts can be saved as .vcf/vCard as well); media files in their original formats.
