Formatting a computer's hard drive is the process of swiping all the files and giving space for new files or a new operating system. It is a serious matter, but not quite as serious as some people would assume. If you accidently format your hard drive, you can still retrieve the files on it if no new data is written to the drive. That's because formatting a drive doesn't erase everything on the drive, but remove the files from the computer's File Allocation Tables (FAT), telling the computer that it is free to use this space. The files are still intact and can be easily recovered.

Since that you know that your data still there, so make an attempt to recover the data as soon as possible, to help prevent the space from being used by another file or program. Here you need to rely on a third-party application to recover formatted hard drive.
